Time goes by, but good things remain.
That’s exactly what happened with the special partnership between Mattei products and Antinori wines.

Have you ever tried our Torta Mantovana paired with Moscato?
Or the most classic combination: almond biscuits (the famous cantuccini) with Antinori Vinsanto?
And of course, who could forget the timeless sparkling wine?

Among the company documents preserved by my father, I recently found a small advertising booklet from Antinori, dating back to the late 1940s.

It was my grandfather Ernesto who first began purchasing Antinori wines. In a letter written to his son Paolo Pandolfini in November 1942, he notes: “This morning I received a shipment of fine wines from the renowned Antinori estates.”

At the Museo Bottega Mattei, we still keep a few bottles from that period, along with a postcard from 1943 that accompanied them. In one of the postcards displayed at the Museo Bottega in Florence, the addressee is Enrico Pandolfini. At first, I thought it was a mistake - until I remembered my father’s stories! “If you name my grandson Ernesto, I’ll disinherit you!”

That was my grandfather speaking, who apparently disliked his own name. I later found confirmation in other historical company documents, where he indeed signed as Enrico Pandolfini.

By the late 1950s, the management of the Mattei factory passed to his son Paolo Pandolfini, while production and supply were overseen by his cousin Renzo Guarducci.

Uncle Renzo was a dear friend of Mauro Colzi, a long-time representative of the Antinori wine company. Thanks to this friendship - and to my father’s passion for fine wines - the collaboration between Biscottificio Mattei and Antinori grew stronger over the years, evolving into a bond of mutual trust and respect.

In the 1990s, Mattei gift boxes often included biscuits and other baked specialties, paired with fortified, red, or white wines, and of course the renowned Vinsanto, all produced by the historic Antinori winery.

Even today, more than eighty years later, the products of Biscottificio Mattei still go hand in hand with Antinori wines.

We, the Pandolfini siblings, who have been running the company since the late 1990s, deeply value this long-standing friendship and collaboration - as does Andrea Colzi, son of Mauro, who has represented Antinori wines since 2000.

Over time, our biscuit factory has become one of the most loyal admirers and customers of Antinori wines, especially their renowned Vinsanto, of which we purchase several thousand bottles each year.
And, when you think about it, it’s truly our customers who have kept this bond so alive and enduring.

So it feels only natural to raise a glass together, to you! (Cheers!)
